Bruce Johnstone Joins EDR Team

March 14th, 2017

 For Immediate Release

(Regina) Bruce Johnstone, who recently retired after a nearly 40-year career at the Regina Leader-Post, will be writing a monthly column for Economic Development Regina Inc. The column will appear in Think BIG Regina, the monthly newsletter of news and insights for Regina distributed by EDR President & CEO John Lee.

“We are honoured to have a respected business journalist like Bruce becoming part of our communications effort,” said John Lee. “He understands the economy and business environment of the Greater Regina Area like no other commentator, and can provide that unique perspective to help us accurately portray the tremendous opportunities for business growth and investment in our community.”
Johnstone will be providing communications consulting services to EDR including his monthly column, feature writing, and advice on strategic communications activities.

Johnstone is a Regina local who received his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in English from the University of Saskatchewan in 1975. After working briefly with the provincial government, he joined the Leader-Post in 1977 as the bureau reporter in Estevan. He moved to Regina in 1979 and worked as a general assignment reporter, before joining the business department in 1983. He took over as financial editor in 1985.

For the next 30 years, Johnstone was in charge of business coverage for the Leader-Post. During that time, he won awards for his writing from the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CIM), Canadian Association of Financial Planners and the Saskatchewan Reporters’ Association. In 2017, he formed a consulting firm, Bruce Johnstone Communications, which offers freelance journalism, writing, editing and photography services.

“I had some long conversations with John to learn about EDR’s strategy and plans and see where I would fit in,” Johnstone said. “I look forward to telling stories about the people and companies that are leading the growth of Regina’s economy.”

Bruce Johnstone’s first monthly column appears today, and is accessible through the newsletter link on the EDR website: www.economicdevelopmentregina.com/marketintelligence.
